25 year old Santhi Soundarajan, an Indian runner has been stripped of the women's 800 meters silver medal she won at
the Asian Games after she failed a gender test.
Gender test reveals an abnormal level of Y chromosomes
After the games, the runner was given the gender test in Doha, Qatar. The Olympic Council of Asia informed the Indian
Olympic Associon that Soundarajan had been disqualified. The IOA's medical commission is investigating and will report
in 10 days.
The gender test is not mandatory and it is said a complaint was filed against Soundarajan which resulted in her taking the test.
The test includes a medical evaluation from a gynecologist, endocrinologist, psychologist and medicine specialist. Indian
officials said Soundarajan did not have a sex-change surgery but only had abnormal chromosomes.
Soundarajan has had no comment and her local Indian sports officals are not clear on her location. Bahrain's Yusuf Maryam
Jamal won the 800 meters race in 2 minutes, 1.79 seconds. Soundarajan ran in second place with a time of 2 minutes, 3.16
seconds.
